It symbolized Norse culture, reflecting warriors’ prowess and serving essential functions in everyday life. This particular style is a "Type D" (Wheeler V) from approximately 800 AD.
This one of a kind early iron age Viking Axe was hand forged from quality high carbon steel using traditional methods and hand tools only. No machining or power tools, just hammer, anvil, files and a very, very hot fire. The handle is pure hickory, fire burned and oiled with beeswax and orange oil to protect to wood. At 19" x 8.5" and weighing in at 2 lbs 2 ounces this axe is ready for anything you can throw at it or anything you throw it at.
Traditional hammer finished at the anvil, wire brushed and finished with Canola oil while red hot.
