The Viking axe, a versatile weapon and tool used from 8th to 11th centuries, featured a curved blade and long handle, designed for chopping, slashing, and throwing. It symbolized Norse culture, reflecting warriors’ prowess and serving essential functions in everyday life. War axes were sometimes forged with a sharp beak (bec-de-corbin) for penetrating armor.
This one of a kind war axe was hand forged from a solid block of quality carbon steel using traditional methods and hand tools only. The beak has been forged into the head of a raven and the broad axe blade forged into a "Type D" (Wheeler V) profile. No machining or power tools, just hammer, anvil and a very, very hot fire. The handle is pure hickory, fire burned and oiled with beeswax and orange oil to protect to wood.
At 19" x 12" and weighing in at just shy of three pounds this war axe is fully functional and battle ready.
Tomahawk style axe handle is removable and easily replaced.
Traditional hammer finished at the anvil, wire brushed and finished with boiled linseed oil while red hot.
