This large seax was hand forged from a single piece of high carbon 1080 steel. Forged by hammer and hand at the anvil with traditional techniques not ground into shape or made with any type of stock removal, power tools or mechanical short cuts. The handle is gently curved to fit the hand and twisted for a better grip with an integral forged finger guard.
Inspired by history, folklore and Jethro Tull the runic inscription reads "Put our backs to the north wind" on one side and "Hold fast by the river" on the other. These are not engraved; each rune was individually hand forged into the steel as the blade itself was forged.
Once forged, hardened and heat treated the blade was sharpened with a grindstone to a keen edge. Measuring 14" from tip to tip this seax has a 9" sharpened blade and weighs in at 9.5oz.
